Obituary:

Ronald Ray Barton, 50, of Sterling, died Friday, Jan. 19, 1996, in Denver.
Private family visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Tennant Funeral Home. Public visitation is Monday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Christ United Methodist Church. Military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post No. 3541 at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Barton was born March 11, 1945, to Charles and Florence (Ruth) Barton in Sterling.
He grew up in Sterling and graduated from high school here. He owned and operated a local establishment and also patented an air filter cleaning machine.
He joined the U. S. Army in 1966 and fought in the Vietnam War. He received numerous medals, including the Purple Heart (twice), Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Sharpshooter Badge and Rifle Bar.
Mr. Barton raised horses before going into the military. He was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Sterling Elks Lodge No. 1336, Sterling American Legion Post and Sterling VFW.
He is survived by a step-daughter, Christy McWilliams of Cheyenne, Wyo., three brothers, Jerry and Maurice, both of Sterling, and Mardell of Longmont; a sister, Marilynn Knothe of Grand Junction; a step-grandchild, Madison Lenney, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
