Arza Brown was born 18 May 1850 and Mary Frances was born 26 Mar 1849, both in Hamilton, Marion County, Iowa. Arza was the son of Horace and Lucy Clemons Lyman; Mary Frances was the daughter of Andrew and Sarah Spilman McGruder. They had nine children. Mary Frances died 16 Sep 1926 in Haxtun and Arza died 24 Jan 1935 in Sterling, Colorado.
