Gravestone Inscription: In memory of James Fraser; Died Dec. 31, 1892
Note: the last name spelling on the gravestone (Fraser) is different than that listed in the obituary below (Frasier).
The Alma cemetery and Buckskin cemetery are one in the same. The cemetery was originally called the Buckskin cemetery because it was next to the original town of Buckskin Joe, now a ghost town. President Theodore Roosevelt approved the land grant for the cemetery to be used by Alma residents on 3/21/1902, Patent No. 1638.

James Frasier, a Scotchman (sic) and a miner, who has become well known and was highly respected about Alma, was buried in the Buckskin cemetery Monday forenoon. The funeral was one of the largest that has occurred there in a long time.
The circumstances attending his accidental death last Saturday afternoon are very sad. He was employed at the Phillips mine and was in his usual robust health that day. About four in the afternoon, he was notified that a shot was to be fired in the same level and near where he was working. It is supposed that his candle went out, as he was made making his way out of the level toward a 35-foot winze, down which it was customary for the men to descent for safety and that in reaching for the ladder in the dark, he missed it and fell head foremost down the winze onto a pile of loose rock. His fall was heard by the other miners, who rushed at once to his aid. His skull was crushed and he was only able to say: “Raise my head up, boys,” before he died. He was forty-eight years of age and considered by all of his companions to be a man of high and honorable character. We are told that the only relatives he had in this country are two sisters.
